Hot Cars!

Summer time is fun time!...between swimming, sandboxes, parks, ice cream, picnics and so much more it is definately a fun time. However some dangers lurk that alot of us don't think about. Sure we think about sunburns, bug bites, banged up knees and more serious things like dehydration and drowning but what about hot cars!? I was reading an article in my parenting magazine and it says that each year about 37 babies and toddlers die when they are accidentally left strapped in car seats or become trapped in a vehicle. Most of us probably don't think about this or even think twice that it could happen to us however a mother sadly found out differently. With lack of sleep, sick kids, and just a hectic life a mother accidentally left her son in the car. She was on her way to daycare but ended up zoning and found herself at work going about her normal day and at the end of the day she found out the devastating reality that her son was in the car and had been all day. We all think it couldn't happen to us but could it!?... Here are some tips from "Parenting in the Early Years" to help us avoid hot-car tradgedies

*1st and Foremost, always put your purse, cell, or anything else you need for that day on the backseat floor. When you go to retrieve it you'll notice your child.
* Seat your younger or quieter child behind the front passenger seat where their most likely to catch your eye.
* Keep a teddy or stuffed animal in the car seat and when your child is in their seat put it in the passenger seat as a reminder that you have a little one aboard.
Ask your babysitter or daycare provider to phone you promptly if your child isn't dropped off as scheduled.
* Make a habit of always opening the back door of your car to double check.
Never assume someone else that is with you has taken a kid out of his/her seat.
* Put visual clues in your office or home reminding you to check the car seat.

Pearls of Wisdom

We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. ~Ephesians 2:10
"The next time you feel burdened or uncertain, remind yourself, "God prepared this for me in advance. He already knew I could do it. According to him it is already done."
~ Excerpt from Heart of My Heart Pg. 141

Why This Blog!?

Becoming a mother was the hardest thing I ever had to accept. I spent the whole day I found out I was pregnant with Tucker crying. I couldn't wrap my head or heart around the idea that my life was going to change drastically . The 9 months to follow were filled with hope and anticipation as well as denial and depression. When Tucker was born I thought all that had changed...I was in awe at this little being and was so filled with love and compassion. However that changed as time went on...I distanced myself from him and somedays I even hated having him around. I cried all the time and didn't understand how some days I could just love him up and other days hate this little being who had come to take control and was so demanding. I felt anger, and bitterness, lonliness, and sadness over how my life felt so out of control and wondered how could God do this to me. As time went on I slowly worked out those feelings and have come to accept motherhood and Tucker as a part of my life as well as a blessing. Don't get me wrong I still feel frustrated, and irritable, and impatient alot of times but their are the times that he calls me mommy and hugs me or does something silly that reminds me that it'll be ok. Their are those who Motherhood comes easily and then their are those like me who it is a challenge for everyday. My hope from this blog is to be able to share my feelings as well as connect with other mother's who may be feeling the same way or have some motherly insight we can all use. May this blog be a place to learn and grow.
